TV actress Alka Kaushal sentenced to 2 years in jail

Mumbai: One of the most popular television actresses of Indian television – Alka Kaushal – has reportedly been sentenced to 2 years jail term in a cheque bounce case.

Kaushal, who has also essayed character roles in films (she played Kareena Kapoor Khan’s mother in ‘Bajrangi Bhaijaan’ and Kangana Ranaut’s mother in ‘Queen’) couldn’t defend herself in a cheque bounce case.

According to a report in dnaindia.com, the actress and her mother had borrowed Rs 50 Lakh from a farmer Lagrian village. She had reportedly issued two cheques of Rs 25 Lakhs each but the same had bounced, the farmer’s lawyer alleged.

The farmer had moved Malerkotla court in 2015, which sentenced Alka and her mother to jail. The actress subsequently appealed in higher court at Sangrur for relief, but the additional session's court upheld the lower court's decision.

The two are in Sangrur district jail.

Kaushal is actor Varun Badola’s elder sister.
