Rahul Bose, the actor with a difference, is known for his love for literature. Apart from impressive histrionics, rugby and social activism, the actor is passionate about books. Rahul was quite a gentleman and obliged Nabila Habib & Shivangi Singh of Spicezee.com at the Jaipur Literature Festival with an interview. Amid a bustle of hysterical school students, Rahul chatted away about his love for books.Q: When did your love for literature begin?
Rahul: My association with literature began when I was a kid. I loved to read anything I could lay my hands on. Q:What kind of books? Were they all kindergarten books? Rahul: I remember when I was ten I read a lot of books. My mother basically made the whole library open to me, so I would just read anything – Shakespeare, I mean I would understand half of it but still I would read on. Then Somerset Maugham to all kind of books. There are some books I remember reading and some I don’t. Q:Do you plan to become writer? Rahul:Absolutely not! I don’t have the talent. I haven`t even thought of it. Q:What are you reading these days? Rahul: I am reading `The Museusm of Innocence` by Orhan Pamuk. Q: Why are not many films being made on social issues? Rahul: It is because most of the filmmakers are not that intelligent as they are believed to be. They are in the film industry to entertain and to earn money. Also, films on social causes are highly and unfairly judged. Q: If asked to compare cinema with books, what would be your take? Rahul:You can`t compare the two. They have to be individual and they are separate. These are two different mediums. These two mediums stand separate and they cannot be evaluated under the same criteria. Q: What are you doing next, your upcoming films? Rahul: Well, I am doing Aparna`s `The Japanese Wife`, and a horror psychological thriller, `Fired` and romantic comedy `Kuch Love Jaisa` with Shefali Shah. Q: What do you think of Jaipur Literature Festival? Rahul:It is wonderful to be here. So many things to know and learn.
