New Delhi: Noted music composer Illaiyaraja, Hindustani classical singer Ghulam Mustafa Khan, Hindutva thinker P Parameswaran, Kerala Bishop Philipose Mar Chrysostom and 39 other prominent personalities were conferred the prestigious Padma awards for 2018 by President Ram Nath Kovind on Tuesday. Vice President Venkaiah Naidu, PM Narendra Modi and his ministerial colleagues and several other dignitaries attended the function at the Rashtrapati Bhavan.

Padma Vibushan to Ilaiyaraaja for his contribution to music and the Tamil language.


Padma Vibushan to Ustad Ghulam Mustafa Khan in the field of music. The doyen of the Rampur-Sahaswan Gharana, he is a Hindustani classical singer, music director and scholar.


Padma Vibushan to P Parameswaran in the field of Literature and Education. He is an erudite writer and accomplished orator and is the president of Vivekananda Kendra, Kanyakumari.


Padma Bhushan to Dr Philipose Mar Chrysostom, India’s longest-serving Bishop. He formulated and implemented various projects to improve the social and economic conditions of the poor and the deprived.


Padma Bhushan to Dr Ramachandran Nagaswamy. An archaeologist and historian, he is known for his expertise on Chola inscriptions in temples. 


Padma Bhushan to Professor Ved Prakash Nanda in the field of Literature and Education. An eminent law professor and jurist, he is honorary President of the World Jurist Association.


Padma Bhushan to Pandit Arvind Parikh in the field of Art (music). A sitarist, he is former vice president of UNESCO's International Music Council.


Padma Shri to Somdev Kishore Devvarman in the field of Sports. He has won multiple gold medals in the Asian and Commonwealth Games.


Padma Shri to Professor Digamber Hansda in the field of Literature and Education. A Santhali language author and educationalist, he is working on development of cultural heritage, education and literature of the Santhal Tribal community.


Padma Shri to Malti Joshi Hansda in the field of Literature and Education. A veteran author of Hindi and Marathi languages, she has authored over 60 books


Padma Shri to Dr Joyasree Goswami Mahanta in the field of Literature and Education. She is a writer, educationist and social worker from Assam.


Padma Shri to Amitava Roy in the field of Science and Engineering. He is a Nuclear Scientist specialising in spent fuel reprocessing and radioactive nuclear waste management.


Padma Shri to Murlikant Rajaram Petkar. A 1965 war hero, he went on to become India's first Paralympic gold medalist in the 1972 Germany Paralympics, setting a world record in the freestyle swimming event.


Padma Shri to Narayan Das. A spiritual leader and head of the Triveni Dham in Jaipur district, he has founded multiple schools, colleges and hospitals for the rural poor and farmers


Padma Shri to Anwar Jalalpuri (posthumously) in the field of Literature and Education. An Urdu poet from Lucknow, he translated over 700 shlokas of the Bhagwad Gita from Sanskrit to Urdu.


Padma Shri to Manas Bihari Verma. A former programme director of Tejas, he played a pivotal role in indigenisation of technology. Post-retirement, Verma returned to rural Bihar to impart science and computer education to poor children.


Padma Shri to Dr Sulagitti Narasamma in the field of social work. A nonagenarian farm labourer, she provides midwifery services in deprived regions of Karnataka free of charge and has performed over 15,000 deliveries over 70 years.


Padma Shri to Professor Rajagopalan Vasudevan who patented a method to reuse plastic waste to construct roads.


Padma Shri to V Nanammal. India's oldest Yoga teacher. At 98, she still practices and teaches 100 students daily and has trained over a million students.


Padma Shri to Subasini Mistry in the field of social work. She single-handedly built Humanity Hospital at Hanspukur (West Bengal) toiling for 20 years as a daily labourer.


Padma Shri to Nouf Almarwaai, first certified Yoga Instructor in Saudi Arabia. She played an instrumental role for legalising Yoga in Saudi Arabia.


Padma Shri to Dr Abhay Gang and Dr Rani Bang in Medicine. They transformed healthcare in Gadchiroli, Maharashtra, over 30 years.


Padma Shri to Lekshmikutty in Medicine. She has treated thousands of people with natural medicine, especially for snake and insect bites.


Padma Shri to Pravakar Maharana in the field of Art (sculpture) who is a sculptor and preserver of the traditional sculpture of Odisha.


Padma Shri to Kashmiri writer and theatre director Pran Kishore Kaul (Art).
