CB-CID visits Joshi's house to probe into arson incident

Lucknow: The Uttar Pradesh police began their investigation into the arson at UPPCC chief Rita Bahuguna Joshi's house on Tuesday by visiting her residence along with forensic experts.

A team of CB-CID led by Inspector General A L Banerjee visited Joshi's house this afternoon along with a team of forensic experts to collect material evidences from the spot, official sources said.

During their two-hour stay, forensic experts collected samples from the spot and videographed some portions of the house, which was set on fire on July 15, they said.

The Congress state president's house was set on fire allegedly by BSP workers on the night of July 15.

The Congress in its complaint had alleged involvement of BSP MLA Jitendra Singh Babloo and another party leader Intezaar Ahmad Abdi, besides 150 unidentified persons.

While the Congress demanded a CBI probe, the state government ordered a CB-CID inquiry into the incident.

A vehicle allegedly used by Abidi on the day of arson was recovered by the police yesterday.
