Tata Motors in fast lane, October sales grow 34% Mumbai: Home-grown automobiles major Tata Motors on Monday reported a 34 per cent jump at 53,404 units in sales of its commercial and passenger vehicles in October as compared to 39,729 units in the same period last year.

Sales of commercial and passenger vehicles in the domestic market grew 40 per cent at 50,552 units from 36,168 in the same period a year-ago, Tata Motors said in a statement here.

Cumulative sales (including exports) rose 7 per cent at 3,26,895 units as against 3,05,438 vehicles in the same month last year.

Sales of commercial vehicles increased 59 per cent at 30,541 units from 19,154 vehicles in October 2008.

LCV sales rose 57 per cent at 18,625 units over October last year.

M&HCV sales stood at 11,916 units, a growth of 63 per cent over October last year.

Cumulative sales of commercial vehicles in the domestic market for the fiscal till now (April-Oct 09) stood at 1,92,241 units, a 17 per cent jump over the last year.

Cumulative LCV sales stood 1,18,903 units, a 34 per cent jump over last year, while M&HCV sales stood at 73,338 units, down 4 per cent over last year.

Passenger vehicles business reported a total sale and distribution offtake of 22,232 units (20,011 Tata plus 2,221 Fiat) in the domestic market, a 28 per cent increase compared to 17,378 units (17,014 Tata plus 364 Fiat) in the same period last year, the company said.

Sales of Tata cars grew 25 per cent at 17,557 units over October 2008. Sales of the Tata Nano stood at 3,018 units. The Indica range sales rose 2 per cent at 9,640 units over October last year.

The Indigo range recorded sales of 4,899 units, a growth of 6.1 per cent over October last year, reversing the decline after seven months due to the launch of the next generation all-new Indigo Manza, Tata Motors said.

The Sumo/Safari range sales declined 16 per cent at 2,454 units over October last year.

Cumulative sales and distribution offtake of passenger vehicles in the domestic market for the fiscal stood 1,33,693 units (118,579 Tata plus 15,114 Fiat) as against 1,17,714 units (114,943 Tata plus 2,771 Fiat) last year, a growth of 13.6 per cent, the company said.

Cumulative sales of Nano stood at 10,518 units, Indica range at 66,508 units, Indigo family at 23,397, down 25 per cent and Sumo/Safari range at 18,156 units, down 26 per cent.

Sales from exports stood at 2,852 vehicles, down 20 per cent from 3,561 in October 2008. Cumulative sales from exports for the fiscal at 16,075 units showed a drop of 37 per cent over 25,601 units in the same period last year, it said.
