Keep beef out of Games menu, demands Delhi BJP

New Delhi: Delhi BJP on Tuesday strongly demanded keeping beef out of the menu of the October 3-14 Commonwealth Games in the national capital.

Adopted a resolution asking the Organising Committee of the mega sporting event not serve beef to sportspersons and other participants, the working committee of Delhi BJP said serving it would hurt religious sentiments.

Earlier, former BJP chief Rajnath Singh had requested the Delhi administration and Commonwealth Games organising committee to keep beef out of the menu of the event.

The BJP leader had made the request through letters to Delhi Lieutenant Governor Tejinder Khanna and Chairman, Organising Committee, Commonwealth Games, Suresh Kalmadi. BJP-ruled MCD had also adopted a resolution to keep beef out of the menu.

Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit had refused to comment on the issue but only said that sportspersons would be provided with high-calorie food.

The working committee meeting, presided over by Delhi BJP chief O P Kohli, also condoled the death of former West Bengal Chief Minister Jyoti Basu.
