Ancient idol recovered in Mathura; man arrested



Mathura: An idol worth Rs one crore, stolen from a temple in Lalitpur last month, was recovered by police here today with the arrest a person when he was on his way to sell it.

Local police, in a joint operation with Refinery police, nabbed the person while he was on way to sell the 300-year-old the statue in market.

"Vidhi Chandra was nabbed when he was going to sell the idol of Goddess Laxmi in the market," SSP BD Paulson said while talking to reporters.

"The market value of it is stated to be over ten million. It was stolen from Jain temple falling under Jakhalaun police station of Lalitpur district on the night of March 9/10. The city police was since then making efforts to recover the statue," he said.

A police team from Lalitpur took Chandra with them for further investigation.
