Two Keralites among crew held hostage by Somalian pirates



Thiruvananthapuram: Two Keralites, one of them an engineering trainee, are among the 26 crew, including 11 Indians, held captive aboard a cargo vessel hijacked by Somalian pirates off African coast three days back, according to information received by their family members.

The two on the hijacked ship MV Rak Africana are Roji B John of Pathanamthitta and V Vishnu from Thiruvananthapuram, a marine engineering trainee on the vessel.

According to Vishnu's mother Geetha Vijayakumar, it was the shipping company that informed them about the hijacking of the vessel, which was sailing to Morocco along the Somalian coast.

A similar information was received by the family members of John at Kodunthara in Pathanamthitta district.

The faimly members of the two sailors have sought the intervention of the Centre for the release of their kin.

According Geetha, her family had brought the matter to the offices of Minister for Non Resident Indians Affairs Minister Vayalar Ravi and Minister of State for External Affairs Shashi Tharoor.
