Increase punishment in crimes against women: Maha to Centre
Mumbai: Maharashtra Home Minister R R Patil
on Thursday said a proposal would be sent to the Centre for
increasing punishment in cases of crimes against women.
"We would send a proposal to the Centre to increase the
punishment in crimes against women and strengthen the laws,"
Patil informed the Legislative Council.
The minister also announced to set up a Women Security
Committee comprising women doctors, lawyers, professors and
NGO representatives, he said.
The post of councillors would be soon filled, he added.
Patil said police would be directed to file charge sheet
within 60 days in rape cases and to submit medical reports in
Shiv Sena MLC Neelam Gorhe raised the issue of rise in
number of crime cases against women in the state.
"The crime rate against women has gone up by 5.4 per cent
in Pune region alone and the Government should address the
issue," she said.
