GPS operational in 100 buses: Delhi govt tells HC

New Delhi: The NCT government today informed the Delhi High Court that the Global Positioning System (GPS) is operational in 100 buses and would be installed in 1,000 more buses in four months.

Appearing for the Delhi government, counsel Meera Bhatia told the Division Bench of Justices Vikramjit Sen and A K Pathak that 100 buses with GPS facility are operational and plying on the roads in South Delhi and the government will make the system operational in 500 DTC and 500 Blueline buses.

Earlier this week, the High Court had asked the government about the status of installation of Global Positioning System (GPS) in the buses on the city roads.

Taking suo motu cognisance of the number of accidents by Blueline buses on the city roads in 2008, the High Court had directed the government to fix guidelines and phase out the "killer" buses from the roads.

Meanwhile, the Bench extended the Blueline operators permits for another four months.
