Assam Assembly polls not being advanced: Gogoi

New Delhi: Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi on Tuesday ruled out advancing the 2011 Assam Assembly elections, saying his government will complete its full term.

"No, no, we have no plan to advance the polls," Gogoi told reporters when asked whether there was any possibility of advancing the Assembly elections in Assam.

The term of the 126-member Assam Assembly ends in May. "We are doing good. We want to complete the full term," Gogoi said.

Gogoi first came to power in 2001 after Congress won the Assembly election with an absolute majority. In 2006 polls, the Congress fell short of a majority but was able to form the government, with Gogoi as Chief Minister, after joining hands with Bodoland People's Front.
