Punjab Police SP escapes narrowly, gunman shot dead
Amritsar: A senior Punjab Police official
today escaped unhurt but his gunman was killed on the spot
when he protested eve teasing allegedly by two youth who fired
at him in a restaurant here.
According to Police Commissioner of Amritsar city
Varinder Kumar Sharma, the attack on Tarn Tarn district SP
Malwinder Singh Sidhu took place when he, along with his wife
and daughter, went to Pizza Hut restaurant where the youth
were allegedly teasing young girls.
When Sidhu tried to stop the youth from teasing, the
latter hurled abuses at him. During a heated altercation,
Sidhu slapped the youth who in retaliation fired at him,
While Sidhu escaped unhurt his gunman Balwinder Singh was
shot dead on the spot, he added.
The youth came out of the restaurant and tried to flee in
their car parked outside but failed since the another gunman
of Sidhu fired a volley of gun shots at the vehicle puncturing
one of its tyres, the police commissioner said.
When the youth came out of the car to flee, Sidhu's
gunman again fired on them resulting in the injury of one of
them identified as Maninder Singh Sonu, a resident of Shaeed
Udam Singh locality. While he was apprehended, the other youth
managed to escape, said Sharma.
He said two fake number plates bearing registration number
of Jammu and Kashmir were also found in the car.
