CAT gives no relief to provisionally selected police constable
New Delhi: Rash and negligent driving might make a person ineligible for the Delhi Police as the Central Administrative Tribunal has turned down the appeal of a provisionally selected constable against cancellation of his candidature due to his involvement in a road accident.
"The applicant was admonished under section 279 of the
IPC for rash and negligent driving resulting in an injury to a
person. It is not desirable to appoint a constable who had
been convicted of rash and negligent driving," the Tribunal,
comprising Members S P Singh and S Raju, said.
It passed the order on a petition of provisionally
selected constable Vipin Dagar whose candidature was cancelled
by a committee constituted by the police commissioner on the
ground that the applicant was convicted by a local court in a
case of accident where a person was injured. Dagar was then a
Blueline bus driver.
Dagar, while seeking his appointment to the post, had
contended that the accident was only one such instance in his
life and it can happen with anyone but the Tribunal rejected

disclosure of the incident on his own but the Tribunal went by
the Delhi Police decision which found him ineligible to join
