Goods train engine catches fire, no casualties
Lucknow: A fire broke out in the engine of a coal-laden goods train in Uttar Pradesh's Ambedkar Nagar district on Thursday, railway officials said. No casualty was reported in the incident.
"It could have been a major mishap, but with the timely intervention of railway and fire-fighting officials it was averted and the fire could not spread to the wagons from the engine of the train," VK Singh, government railway police (GRP) inspector told reporters in Ambedkar Nagar, some 200 km from here.
The train, coming from Jharkhand, was headed towards a unit of the National Thermal Power Corporation (NTPC) in Tanda, Ambedkar Nagar.
"We are yet to establish any specific reason behind the incident. It would only be confirmed after the completion of the enquiry that would be carried out by senior railway officials," Singh said.
