Rash driving: Three times more fine in Maharashtra
Mumbai: Maharashtra Government today
increased fine for rash driving by three times to curb
violations of traffic norms.
The decision was taken at a meeting of state cabinet
The Government has amended Motor Vehicle Rule 188 to make
the provision for fine of Rs 300. Earlier it was Rs 100, an
official from Transport Department said.
The statistics available with the Government show over
70,000 road accidents in 2007, 2008 and 2009 and over 11,000
people died each year in those accidents.
"Considering huge number of accidents due to rash and
drunken driving, the Government has increased the fine three
times," Chief Minister Ashok Chavan told reporters here.
