Be careful while flying kites, don't trip power supply: BSES

New Delhi: Power discom BSES today asked the people in the city to fly kites carefully on the Independence day to guard against disrupting power supply.

The BSES said there had been 44 incidents of trippings of power supply lines on the last Independence Day due kite-flying because the kites and the threads get entangled in the wires.

"Residents are advised not to fly kites near electricity installations, including overhead cables and certainly not use metal-coated manjhas," said a BSES spokesperson.

The glass-coated manjhas being a good conductor of electricity leads to trippings and power supply disruption besides electrocution, he said.

He said disruption of power supply is a punishable offence and the person can be booked under the Electricity and the Delhi Police Act.
