'Most wanted' tribal leader addresses

Koraput: A 'most wanted' tribal leader claimed to be backed by the Maoists not only addressed a public meeting in Koraput district, but would also announced that he carry would on his crusade against exploitation by money lenders.

The president of Chasi Mulia Adivasi Sangha (CMAS), Nachika Linga wanted in several cases, including three of murder and declared as 'most wanted' by the police, addressed the meeting at a forest close to Mankidi village under Narayanpatna police station yesterday.

"When we came to know about his presence at the meeting, the police deliberately did not take action because he was surrounded by hundreds of villagers," Koraput Superintendent of Police Anup Kumar Sahu said.

Linga also gave an interview to a local tv channel claiming that his organisation had no link with Maoists and false cases had been framed against him under pressure from local money lenders who exploited tribals for generations.
