Body of missing Japanese climber found in the Himalayas

Kathmandu: The body of a Japanese climber, who was swept away by an avalanche along with two other team members and a guide on the 8,163 metre high Dhaulagiri peak in eastern Himalayas, has been recovered.

The dead climber has been identified as Daisuke Honda, District Police Office Myagdi said today.

Honda and two other Japanese climbers along with their Nepalese guide were on an expedition to Mt Dhaulagiri, considered one of the most difficult and dangerous mountain peaks in the world, when an avalanche struck them on September 29.

The fate of two other Japanese climbers and their guide is still not known, according to Police Inspector Mahendra BK.
