Lankan military officials encouraged to write on civil war
Colombo: Sri Lankan senior military
officials have been encouraged to write their experience
during the three-decade old civil war with the LTTE rebels
that ended in May 2009.
Gotabhaya Rajapaksa, the powerful Defence Secretary,
said books on the country's civil war would make the public
understand the hardships they faced and sacrifices made by the
security forces in the task of defeating the LTTE terrorism.
Gotabhaya, the brother of President Mahinda Rajapaksa,
was speaking at a ceremony to launch a book titled 'The Rise
and Fall of the LTTE" written by the Inspector General of
Police Mahinda Balasuriya yesterday in the capital.
"Experience is what matters when you write a book
while also getting all your facts right after a prolonged
investigation into the events that took place," he said.
The Defence Secretary said there "are so many
incidents that took place during the war that the public would
be eager to read about."
