Stampede: Kerala govt to speed up disbursal of solatium
Thiruvananthapuram: Kerala Government has decided to set up a special team of officials for the delivery of the solatium of Rs 6 lakah each for the 102 devotees died in last Friday's stampede at Pullumedu near Sabarimala temple.
The relief payment would include Rs 5 lakh from the state government and Trvancore Devaswom Board and Rs one lakh from the Prime Minister's relief fund, Chief Minister
V S Achuthanandan told reporters after a cabinet meeting.
The injured would get Rs 75,000 with the state's component being Rs 50,000.
Since most of the deceased were from Tamil Nadu, Karnataka and Andhra Pradesh and the special team was being constituted to deliver the solatium at their respective places.
The Chief Minister would also be convening a meeting of higher ups of various departments for working out plans to enhance the safety of pilgrims and avoid recurrence of mishaps
at Sabarimala and Pampa, he said.
