Centre on alert over Karmapa issue: Shinde
Jammu: Union Power Minister Sushil Kumar Shinde on Sunday said the government was on alert in connection with the recovery of huge foreign currency in the 17th Ugyen Trinley Dorje Karmapa's transit home in Dharamsala.
"Do not worry, Government of India is alert on this
issue. They are doing the job in this regard," Shinde said,
addressing a rally of Jammu and Kashmir Pradesh Congress
Committee (JKPCC) at Muthi here.
"All precautions have been taken and it will be further
taken in order to meet the security aspects. There would be no
security lax," he said.
Police have recovered foreign currency worth over Rs 7
crore during raids on the trust backed by Karmapa and arrested
the main accountant Shakti Lama.
On BJP's recent 'Ekta Rally', he said, "BJP is dividing
the country by playing divisive politics. But it is congress
which is always making all efforts to integrate the country
and lead it to the model country in the world."
Focusing on the need to practice teachings of Mahatma
Gandhi on his death anniversary today, he said, "People should
reject the forces working for the division of society and
"We want misguided youth to come back to national
mainstream and restart their lives and work for the
development of the state," Shinde said, referring to the
initiatives for misguided youth of the Valley.
He said that Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and AICC Chief
Sonia Gandhi is giving their special attention to Jammu and
Kashmir and north-east on their development.
