Forces beat up scribes despite knowing identity: Press Club

Kolkata: The Press Club here on Tuesday asked the West Bengal government to take disciplinary action against those found guilty in the attack on the media persons in West Midnapore district.

'Strongly' condemning the attack on fourth estate, Press Club General Secretary Kazi Golam Gous Siddiqui and President Premananda Ghosh pointed out that the scribes were at their job when they were beaten up by the security forces who were aware of the identity of the journalists.

Pointing out some of the mediapersons had to be hospitalised, the joint statement said, "we expect the state government to take disciplinary action against those found guilty."

The Howrah district Press Club also decried the thrashing of journalists by security forces in another statement.

Two inmates of a Trinamool-run relief camp here were arrested by joint security forces for alleged links with Maoists after which party workers blocked roads and were baton charged by police resulting in the injury of 26 people, including five journalists.
