Kancheepuram

Kanchipuram, Kanchi, or Kancheepuram is a temple city and a municipality in Kanchipuram district. It is a temple town and the headquarters of Kanchipuram district. In ancient times it was called Kachi and Kachiampathi. Former chief minister of Tamil Nadu and founder of DMK, CN Annadurai was born here. Kanchipuram is located on the Palar River and known for its temples and silk sarees. Kanchipuram is also called as "City of 1000 Temples".

As per 2001 India census Kanchipuram had a population of 152,984. Males constitute 50% of the population and females 50%. Kanchipuram has an average literacy rate of 75%, higher than the national average of 59.5%. Male literacy is 81%, and female literacy is 69%.

Vellore

Vellore is a City of the Vellore district. In 2008, the 142 year–old municipality was made a City Corporation. The Vellore city corporation, at 392 square kilometres (151 sq mi), is the largest in Tamil Nadu, surpassing Chennai city corporation, which is 182 square kilometres (70 sq mi). It is considered one of the oldest cities in South India and lies on the banks of the Palar River on the site of Vellore Fort. The city lies between Chennai and Bangalore and the Temple towns of Thiruvannamalai and Tirupati.

The Indian census as of 2001, states that Vellore City had a population of 906,745 after being elevated as a corporation. Vellore has an average literacy rate of 74%, higher than the national average of 59.5%. Male literacy is 80%, and female literacy is 68%.

Coimbatore

Coimbatore elects five members to the Tamil Nadu Legislative Assembly and one member to the Indian Parliament. The five legislative assembly constituencies in the city are Coimbatore North, Coimbatore South, Kaundampalayam, Singanallur and Sulur. All five are part of the Coimbatore Parliamentary Constituency. Till 2009, there were only four assembly constituencies in Coimbatore – Coimbatore East, Coimbatore West, Singanallur and Perur. Also about 20% of the urban agglomeration came under the Nilgiris constituency which runs into the northern part of the city and about 10% came under the Pollachi Lok Sabha constituency.

Coimbatore is the second largest city (by population) in Tamil Nadu and a major textile and engineering hub of South India. It is the administrative headquarters of the Coimbatore district.

Nagapattinam

Nagapattinam assembly constituency is part of Nagapattinam Lok Sabha constituency. Nagapattinam is a coastal city and a municipality in Nagapattinam district. It is the administrative headquarters of Nagapattinam District and was carved out by bifurcating the composite Thanjavur district on October 18, 1991.

As per 2001 India census Nagapattinam had a population of 92,525. Males constitute 50% of the population and females 50%. Nagapattinam has an average literacy rate of 74%, higher than the national average of 59.5%. Male literacy is 80%, and female literacy is 69%. The major language spoken in the Nagapattinam District is Tamil.

Chennapatna

About 65 km from Bangalore is a small town Chennapatna which is well known for its unusual wooden lacquered toys and products. These craftsmen called chitragars are involved in this traditional craft since ages and make beautiful toy sets. This craft is practised by both men and women. These toys fetch good revenue through exports.

Tiruvarur

Tiruvarur lies in the Kaveri River basin and the main occupation of the inhabitants of Tiruvarur and surrounding areas is agriculture. Tiruvarur is one of the oldest towns which have been popular as cultural headquarters for many centuries. This ancient town in Chola heartland is famous Sri Thyagaraja temple as well as annual chariot festival held in the month of April. The District of Tiruvarur has been carved out as a separate district due to trifurcation of Thanjavur District. At present also this district is comprised of seven taluks and ten Community development Blocks.

As per the 2001 India census Tiruvarur had a population of 56,280. Males constitute 51% of the population and females 49%. Tiruvarur has an average literacy rate of 81%, higher than the national average of 59.5%. Male literacy is 85%, and female literacy is 76%.

Chepauk

Chepauk is a locality in Chennai. It is home to the Chepauk palace, built in the Indo-Saracenic style. The University of Madras campus is yet another prominent landmark of Chepauk. The Central Research laboratory is located here. It is believed that the name "Chepauk" itself might have been derived from the Urdu word "Che Bagh" meaning "Six gardens".

Kolathur

Kolathur is a part of North Chennai. It is close to the Grand National Trunk Road, connecting Kolkat. Also the Inner Ring Road passes through Kolathur making it one of the very connected locality in Chennai. Through the Ring Road one can reach Anna Nagar in a matter of 10 minutes as the distance is only 7 km. Closer railway stations include Villivakkam and Perambur Locoworks.

Villivakkam

Being the largest state assembly constituency in Tamil Nadu with respect to size, Villivakkam is located within the city premises of Chennai. Good infrastructure and convenient living conditions have made this place popular among the working class. A place of diverse cultures and spirituality, Villivakkam is also well-known for holding some of the glorious temples of Chennai city.

Ambattur Industrial Estate and Integral Coach Factory are also located near Villivakkam. Having been in the midst of rapid development phase with New fly overs all around , Mulitplexes and shopping malls sprawling up around it, this place still maintains its strong deep rooted culture and devotion to spirituality and god.

Ambasamudram

Ambasamudram is a constituency in the legislative assembly, that includes the city, Ambasamudram. It is part of the Tenkasi Lok Sabha constituency.

As of 2001 India census , the town of Ambasamudram had a population of 32,681. Males constitute 49% of the population and females 51%. Ambasamudram has an average literacy rate of 76%, higher than the national average of 59.5%; with 52% of the males and 48% of females literate.

Rasipuram

Rasipuram is a municipal corporation in Namakkal district of Tamil Nadu. It is a town 27 km (16.5 miles) from Salem. Rasipuram Lok Saba Constituency was removed from the latest alignments and joined in to Namakkal Constituency.

Anna Nagar

Anna Nagar is a state assembly constituency in west Chennai, Tamil Nadu. It includes the locality, Anna Nagar which is in Chennai. It is part of the Chennai Central Parliamentary constituency. It is named after the Tamil leader CN Annadurai. It is always known for being a smart and affluent suburb and also one of the most expensive area in Chennai , but more recently, in addition to being a popular residential area, Anna Nagar has also become a busy commercial and educational center.

Alandur

Alandur is a southern subburb of Chennai and a municipality in Kancheepuram district in the state of Tamil Nadu. It is part of Chennai South Lok Sabha Constituency. It is a thickly populated suburb flanking the railway line, close to the St. Thomas Mount Railway Station, Chennai. Alandur has a mixed population with a notable number of Anglo-Indians.

At the 2001 India census Alandur had a population of 146,154. Males constituted 51% of the population and females 49%. Alandur had an average literacy rate of 84%, higher than the national average of 59.5%; with 53% of the males and 47% of females literate. 10% of the population was under 6 years of age.

Srirangam

Srirangam assembly constituency is part of Tiruchirappalli Lok Sabha contituency. Srirangam, actual Tamil name Thiruvarangam, is an island and a part of the city of Tiruchirapalli, also known as Trichy or Tiruchi. Srirangam is bounded by the Kaveri River (also known as Cauvery river) on one side, and the Kaveri distributary Kollidam (Coleroon) on the other side.

Srirangam is home to a significant population of Srivaishnavites (followers of Lord Vishnu, one of the triumvirate of Hindu Gods. Srirangam is famous for its Sri Ranganathaswamy Temple, a major pilgrimage destination for Hindus and one of the largest temple complexes in India.
