Cong refuses to comment on Govt-civil society differences

New Delhi: Congress on Monday refused to comment on the confrontation between civil society representatives and the government on the issue of bringing the Prime Minister and higher judiciary under the Lokpal purview.

"I am not privy to the discussions and debates in the drafting committee of the bill," was the stock response of party spokesman Manish Tewari to a host of questions by reporters on the issue.

After the meeting of the committee, Anna Hazare, one of the members of the committee, who is spearheading the campaign for a strong and effective Lokpal Bill, said he was not hopeful of the government meeting its deadline of June 30 for drafting the proposed legislation.
