Coastal air service soon in Kerala: Ravi

Thiruvananthapuram: Union Civil Aviation Minister Vayalar Ravi on Sunday said coastal air services connecting important cities of Kerala would be launched soon.

Kerala had recently demanded that the union government launch such services, connecting cities of Kochi, Kozhikode, Thiruvananthapuram, and Mangalore, considering the tourism potential and also increasing travel demands in the region.

Ravi also supported the state government's plan to launch air shuttle services connecting high range districts Idukki and Waynad, an official press release said here today.

A state government memorandum had also demanded financial aid to set up small airports in Kerala and to reduce ticket fare of various airlines, including Air India, which operate services to Gulf region.

Ravi said his ministry would soon convene a meeting of state government representatives and airline company officials to find a solution in the issue, the release said.
