HC dismisses petition filed by autodrivers
Bangalore: The Karnataka High Court on Wednesday dismissed a writ petition filed by some autorickshaw drivers challenging the government notification enhancing autorickshaw permits for Bangalore city to 1.25 lakh.
Justice Abdul Nazeer, before whom the petition filed by some autorickshaw drivers came up, upheld the power of government to increase the permit limit, saying there are justifiable reasons for doing so.
The drivers had submitted that the enhancement in the auto permit would result in environmental pollution.
Earlier, a local autorickshaw drivers' union Souharda Autorickshaw Drivers' Society had requested the government to remove the ceiling fixed for autorickshaw permits stating that such a ceiling (fixed at 85,000 for Bangalore as on March 2011) was leading to irregularities in autorickshaw operation by the drivers.
