'White paper on Tibet a whitewash'
Dharamshala: The Tibetan government-in-exile
on Monday said China's recent white paper on Tibet, claiming the
region to be its part since ancient times, is "a whitewash" to
cover up its atrocities on Tibetans.
"The Central Tibetan Administration considers the
document another whitewash of an ongoing and ugly reality.
Such moves cannot stifle the voices of Tibetans who demand
greater freedom and the return of the Dalai Lama to his
people," Tibetan government-in-exile secretary Tenzin Phuntsok
Atisha said here.
Dismissing the "Tibetan independence" movement as an
attempt by old and new imperialists to divide the country,
China on July 11 had released a white paper claiming that
historical evidence showed that the region has been part of
its territory since ancient times.
"Historical facts clearly demonstrate that the so-called
'Tibetan independence' was in fact cooked up by old and new
imperialists, and was part of Western aggressors' scheme to
carve up the territory of China," the white paper released in
connection with 60 years of 'Liberation of Tibet' stated.
Tenzin said no effort can silence the voices demanding
greater freedom for the people of Tibet. Over 1.2 million
Tibetans have died due to Chinese atrocities, he said.
