Dr Surjeet Doss Gupta told reporters here that effluents of about 113 Industries around Haridwar and as many as 95 in Varanasi are discharged into the Ganga, besides untreated sewage, making it a highly polluted river. "The pollution level of Ganga is rising alarmingly," he said.
The pollution had resulted in the death of about 2.50 lakh children over a period of time, besides causing various skin diseases to people using the river water, he said.
