Delhi cop turns extortionist at Nehru Park
New Delhi: He was posted in an east Delhi
police station but used to ride around 15 km on his motorcycle to the elite Chanakyapuri area to make extra money allegedly by extorting money from couples at Nehru Park.
However, Valeen Mohammed, who was posted in New Ashok
Nagar Police Station, ran into police last week at the Nehru
Park following investigations into a complaint filed by a
manager of a five-star hotel that a policeman extorted money
from him while he was waiting for a friend.
He was arrested on September six while allegedly trying
to extort money from another man in Nehru Park.
According to the hotel manager, he was waiting for a
friend at Nehru Park parking on Niti Marg when the constable
approached him and told him his presence in the area was
When the complainant took out his purse to show his I-Card that he worked as a manager in a five-star hotel, the constable allegedly snatched the purse and threatened to implicate him in a false case before taking Rs 2,000 from it.
A case of extortion was registered following which a
Sub Inspector went to the spot and asked two other constables
on duty about the incident.
A senior police official said they asked two-three couples present at the park to help them in the investigations as they have told them about extortion bids by a policeman.
As the policemen moved around checking for the extortionist and reached a temple behind the park, the
official said, a man in uniform saw them and tried to flee
from the spot in his motorcycle. However, he was overpowered
and placed under arrest.
