Security forces stage flag march in Itanagar

Itanagar: Security forces on Friday night staged a flag march on the streets of Arunachal Pradesh capital complex which witnessed clashes and arson since Tuesday, police sources said.

Around 14 companies of security personnel have been deployed and they have started holding flag marches from tonight, Superintendent of Police of Capital Complex Apang Tamut said.

Beside deployment of 14 companies of security personnel, police flying squads have been formed and deployed at vulnerable points to tackle any trouble while magistrates and police would conduct joint patrolling, the SP said.

The capital complex has witnessed clashes since Tuesday's violent clashes, arson and police firing at Indira Gandhi Park that claimed the life of 23-year-old Heri Tai.

Meanwhile, Chief Minister Jarbom Gamlin today ordered a one-man committee to probe Tuesday's firing incident and announced an ex-gratia of Rs 5 lakh to the next of the kin of the deceased.

"The state is going through challenging times and it is the responsibility of every citizen cutting across community boundaries to stand together and prove to the world that Arunachal continues to be an island of peace," Gamlin said in his appeal.

"My government is committed to ensuring the safety of the people. Every citizen must rise above all differences, think and act as one people today," he added.
