Hasina invited for Calcutta University convocation

Kolkata: Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has been invited to address the convocation of Calcutta University here, slated to take place either in December or January.

"Bangladesh Prime Minister has been invited by the Vice Chancellor of Calcutta University but a word of confirmation is awaited from her," a CU official said today.

"The date of the convocation would be fixed according to her convenience and after we get her consent. We are expecting it to take place sometime in December or January," he said.

West Bengal Governor MK Narayanan, who is the Chancellor of the university, will also be writing to the Bangladesh premier.

If the proposed visit materialises, it will be the first meeting of Hasina with West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee since the controversy over the botched Teesta water sharing treaty.
