Tamil Nadu: HC dismisses Alagiri's application
Chennai: The Madras High Court on Friday
dismissed an application by Union minister M K Alagiri,
seeking to reject a petition challenging his election from
Madurai Lok Sabha constituency in 2009 and imposed costs on
CPI-M's unsuccessful candidate P Mohan, since deceased,
had challenged election of Alagiri of DMK.
Mohan was substituted by A Lazar, the alternative
candidate of the party, who had filed his nomination from the
constituency, but withdrew in favour of Mohan.
Lazar said he was also aggrieved over the returning
officer declaring Alagiri the winner.
Alagiri filed an application seeking to strike out
certain paragraphs in the election petition and consequently
reject the petition. No material particulars of corrupt
practices had been given in the petition, he claimed.
Lazar contested the claim, stating that all material
facts and particulars had been were provided in his petition.
Lazar's counsel N C Ashok said Justice V Dhanapalan had
dismissed Alagari's application and imposed costs of Rs 5,000
