J Dey murder: Journalist Jigna Vora booked
Mumbai: The Mumbai Police on Tuesday filed a supplementary chargesheet against woman journalist Jigna Vora in connection with the murder of senior scribe J Dey.
Dey, who used to cover underworld for a leading Mumbai daily, was shot dead on June 11 last year.
Jigna has been booked under various Sections of IPC including murder, criminal conspiracy and destruction of evidence, besides stringent provisions of Maharashtra Control of Organised Crime Act (MCOCA) and the Arms Act.
The special MCOCA court took cognisance of the chargesheet and extended the custody of all accused till March 12. Jigna has been shown as the 11th accused in the case.
Additional Commissioner of Police (Crime Branch) Devendra Bharti had yesterday said that they have gathered “enough evidence against her (Jigna) to make a case".
Vora, working as a deputy bureau chief with a Mumbai daily, was arrested on November 25 last year in connection with the case.
Mumbai police had, in December last year, filed a chargesheet against 12 accused in the case. However, the name of Jigna, who was arrested in November, was not included.
The chargesheet filed in the Special MCOCA court runs into 3,055 pages and describes in detail the role of 10 men involved in Dey's murder.
Fugutive don Chhota Rajan has also been named in the chargesheet. However, police mention that Rajan and another accused, Nayan Singh, are still untraced and on the run.
Though Bharti did not give further details on the evidence against Vora, sources in the Crime Branch said that police have enough reasons to support their theory that it was Vora's professional rivalry with Dey that claimed his life.
According to sources, the Crime Branch is also likely to mention the motive behind Dey's murder in the chargesheet.
According to police, Vora had allegedly provided Dey's mobile number and his exact location to Rajan.
