Pak Taliban releases video of kidnapped professor
Islamabad: The Pakistani Taliban on Wednesday released a video of a kidnapped professor, who is a cousin of ANP chief Asfandyar Wali Khan, in which he appealed to the government to accept the demands of the militants to secure his release.
Ajmal Khan, Vice-Chancellor of the Islamia College University in Peshawar, was kidnapped on September 7, 2010.
In the video, Khan says he has been held captive by the Tehrik-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) for almost 18 months but officials have done nothing to get him released.
The Taliban demanded the release of four militants but this was turned down by the government, he said.
Khan, a cousin of Asfandyar Wali Khan, the head of the Awami National Party that rules Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa province, said the government should act immediately to secure his release, TV news channels reported.
Security officials have said the Taliban have been using kidnapping to raise funds and to bargain for the release of militants being held by authorities.
