Illegal mining: Section 144 imposed in 37 villages
Gwalior: In order to check illegal mining, Gwalior district administration on Tuesday imposed Section 144 in 37 villages where unauthorised quarrying was taking place and also directed 2,000 licensed weapon holders to deposit their arms at near-by police stations.
"Besides imposing section 144 in such villages from where reports of illegal mining were received, we have also directed nearly 2,000 licensed weapon holders to deposit their arms in the nearby police stations to check attack on police officials," Gwalior Collector P Narhari told reporters today.
The decision was taken in view of the recent incident of a young IPS officer, Narendra Kumar Singh, being murdered allegedly by the mining mafia.
A list of 24 miscreants was also prepared who frequently attacked forest and police officials in the district and action would be initiated against them under the National
Security Act, he added.
The invoking of section 144 PC would mean that the police would not allow assembly of five or more persons at the places specified.
