CBI files chargesheet against 8 CPI(M) activists
Kochi: CBI on Tuesday filed chargesheet against eight CPI-M activists in the case relating to the murder of Mohammed Fazal, a former marxist worker, who was killed on October 22, 2006 at Thalassery in Kannur district.
N K Sunil Kumar alias Kodi Suni, wanted by the police in connection with the murder of Revolutionary Marxist Party leader T P Chandrasekharan is the first accused in the case.
The chargesheet was filed before the Chief Judicial Magistrate's Court at Ernakulam.
Other accused include Karayil Chandrasekharan, Thiruvangad local committee secretary of CPI(M) and Karayil Rajan, Kannur district secretary who are the seventh and eighth accused respectively in the case, Biju, Jitesh, Arun Das, M K Ganesh and Arun Kumar.
The High court had earlier dismissed the bail pleas of Karayil Chandrasekharan and Karayil Rajan.
The court had on June 6 directed the CBI to file within a week the progress report in the case on a petition filed by Mariyu, Fazal's widow, seeking 'effective and meaningful' investigation in the case.
She had submitted that CBI was not taking steps to find out the "deeper conspiracy and conspirators at higher levels." The "pressure tactics" by CPI (M) was confining the probe to a certain level leaving out the real conspirators, she had alleged.
Of the eight accused, six have been arrested.
