Pak SC moved to press new PM on Swiss letter
Lahore: An advocate has moved a petition before the Pakistan Supreme Court requesting to issue directions to Prime Minister Raja Pervaiz Ashraf to write to the Swiss authorities asking them to reopen the cases against President Asif Ali Zardari.
Petitioner Shahid Naseem Gondal's counsel, AK Dogar, said the apex court in its NRO judgment in 2010 had clearly directed the federal government to take immediate steps to seek revival of cases against President Zardari in Switzerland, reports the Daily Times.
Dogar also said the new PM should learn a lesson from his predecessor Yousuf Raza Gilani who was disqualified by the Supreme Court for not complying with the court's judgment, and take immediate steps as directed by the apex court.
Separately, a citizen submitted a constitutional petition in the Sindh High Court, requesting to direct Ashraf to write to the Swiss authorities for reopening of money laundering cases against Zardari.
