Hurriyat calls for shutdown on Monday
Srinagar: Chairman of hardline faction of Hurriyat Conference Syed Ali Shah Geelani on Saturday called for a shutdown in the Valley on Monday in protest against the Jammu and Kashmir High Court judgement in the Mohammad Qasim Faktoo case.
The High Court had dismissed the petition of Faktoo, sentenced to life imprisonment in the murder case of human rights activist H N Wanchoo. Faktoo sought court direction for his release as he had completed 20 years in jail in May this year.
Geelani told reporters that the Hurriyat will also examine the legal aspects of the case.
Faktoo’s wife and chief of Dukhtaran-e-Milat (Daughters of Nation) Asiya Andrabi termed the judgement "shocking but expected".
The moderate faction of Hurriyat also criticised the judgement.
