No permit needed to transport 5 litres of tribal liquor in Chhattisgarh
Raipur: Chhattisgarh government has exempted transport of traditional liquor, meant for tribal festivals, from mandatory permit but with a rider.
Raman Singh government has given an in-principle nod to exempt the transport of up to five litres of 'Landa', a special drink made from rice and jawar, and 'Mahua' liquor which is prepared from a tree (Bassia latifolia), used in traditional tribal festivities, official sources said Monday.
The decision in this regard was taken in the meeting presided over by Chief Minister Raman Singh last evening.
According to officials, transport of more than five litres of liquor will now be a bailable offence in the state.
"A formal proposal in this regard will be placed before the state cabinet for its approval," they said.
It was also decided in the meeting that to check the instances of forgery, applicants seeking caste certificate will be asked to file an affidavit.
