Cong blames BJP for ongoing Parl logjam over FDI

New Delhi: The Congress Party on Wednesday blamed the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) for the ongoing logjam in both houses of Parliament following a ruckus over the issue of allowing foreign direct investment (FDI) in multi-brand retail sector.

Congress spokesperson Rashid Alvi lashed out at the BJP and said the opposition is only responsible for the deadlock situation at present.

“Basically they (BJP) do not want parliament to function, that is the reason they are creating problems. They are putting certain conditions… Parliament can’t function with certain conditions. There are rules made by parliament itself. The BJP should accept the speaker’s decision," said Alvi.

“The Speaker in the Lok Sabha and Chairman in the Rajya Sabha will take the decision, we always accept their decisions. But the BJP has been habitual of creating problems and not letting the Parliament function,” added Alvi.

Meanwhile, The BJP is adamant at its demand that there should be a discussion as well as voting on the issue of FDI. BJP leader Balbir Punj said that many people would be exposed before the people of the country if a voting takes place on the FDI issue.

The UPA Government, which finally has the DMK by its side, is preparing for a vote on its decision to allow 51 percent FDI in multi-brand retail.
