Iranian blogger death: Tehran’s police chief sacked
Tehran: Amidst international pressure for probe into the death of Sattar Beheshti, a blogger who died from severe abuses after his arrest last month, Tehran’s Cyber police chief Colonel Saeed Shokrian was fired.
Saeed was dismissed as he was held responsible for his inability to prevent such an act due to his negligence.
Sattar Beheshti was arrested as he had posted things which were critical of Iran regime.
The incident has evoked shock worldwide and a prominent press freedom group had joined the US State Department to demand Iran conduct a full investigation into the reported death of a jailed blogger.
Iranian opposition websites had claimed that Sattar Beheshti died from severe abuses after his arrest last month. Iranian officials have made no comment, but the reports brought calls for a full-scale Iranian probe from State Department spokeswoman Victoria Nuland.
Sadly dozens of other bloggers and journalists have been arrested amid widespread crackdowns in Iran in recent years.
