Curtains come down on Silapathikaram Festival

Kochi: The two-day Silapathikaram Festival, celebrating the great Tamil epic poem’s ties to Mathilakam’s Muziris heritage, concluded yesterday with colourful cultural programmes including a pioneering performance of Nangiar Koothu by renowned artiste Dr Indu G.
On its part, the Kochi Biennale Foundation that is organizing the three-month new-art extravaganza slated to start on December 12, said the sculpture of Kannaki, the heroine of the Sangam era epic Silapathikaram, will come up at the Azhikode beach in Thrissur district.
A project to honour its composer, Ilango Adigal, with a sculpture at Mathilakam is also under consideration, they said.
