Mecca Masjid blast: Key suspect arrested from Ujjain
New Delhi: In a major breakthrough, the National Investigating Agency (NIA) has arrested a man believed to have played a key role in Hyderabad’s Mecca Masjid blast in May 2007 in which over a dozen people were killed.
The man arrested by the NIA has been identified as Tej Ram Parmar.
The 25-year-old man, who is believed to have planted the bomb at the Mecca Masjid, was arrested from Ujjain in Uttar Pradesh on Monday.
Parmar is a driver by profession, as per NIA sources.
The NIA, which is investigating the case, believes that Parmar is a member of Abhinav Bharat, the same group which is suspected to have played a role in Samjhauta Express blast which claimed 68 lives on February 18, 2007.
Nine people were killed in the blast during Friday prayers at the historic Mecca Masjid on May 18, 2007. Five more people were killed in police firing on protesters outside the mosque after the blasts.
Earlier this month, the NIA had arrested two men - Dhan Singh and Rajinder Chaudhary - in connection with the Samjhauta Express blast case.
