Yadgir observes bandh against MIM leader Owaisi’s 'hate speech'
Yadgir (Karnataka): The bandh call given by Hindu organisations to protest against the recent 'hate speech' by Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (MIM) legislator Akbaruddin Owaisi evoked good response here on Saturday.
Shops and commercial establishments downed shutters and vehicles remained off the roads, police said.
Hindu outfits took out a procession demanding stern action against Owaisi.
They also submitted a memorandum to the Deputy Commissioner, to be handed over to President Pranab Mukherjee, demanding action against the MLA.
Some persons threw stones at a government office in which window panes and two vehicles were damaged, police said.
Several political parties have strongly condemned Owaisi's remarks, accusing him of using inflammatory and derogatory language in his speech while addressing a public meeting (MIM Jalsa) at Nirmal town of Adilabad district in Andhra Pradesh last month.
