US troops immunity post 2014 to be decided by Afghan elders: Karzai
Kabul: Whether or not the American troops in Afghanistan would remain immune to Afghan law after 2014, would be decided by a national meet of elders, said Afghan President Hamid Karzai.
Having returned from the US on Monday, Karzai told a press conference in Kabul that the issue needs to be decided not by the Afghan government, but by the Afghan people.
Karzai said that a national meeting of elders should be called to decide whether US troops staying in Afghanistan after 2014 would be immune from prosecution under Afghan law.
Talking to a press briefing on Monday, Karzai also said that his country will be "more secure and better after 2014 when foreign troops would leave.
Karzai said this when asked if the Afghan security decline post NATO withdrawal.
