Pak police launch hunt for 4 Afghan officials reported missing
Lahore: Four visiting Afghan officials have been reported "missing" in the eastern Pakistani city of Lahore and the police have launched a hunt to trace them, authorities said on Friday.
The Afghan officials had reportedly come to Lahore some time ago to procure agricultural equipment.
A source in the Home Department of Punjab province said that the federal Interior Ministry had sent an official letter asking officials to look into a complaint made by the Afghan Embassy regarding the officials.
The Afghan Embassy said, the officials, Hamidullah, Muhammad Munir, Ghulam Dastgir and Sherry Jan, of Afghanistan's Development Fund for Agriculture had come to Lahore on an official visit to procure certain equipment.
The officials subsequently went missing and had not returned to Afghanistan.
The Afghan Embassy had expressed concerns that the men might have been detained by Pakistani security agencies, the source said.
The Home Department instructed the Punjab Police chief to launch an investigation into the matter.
