Anand Bhawan to remain open till Kumbh is over

Allahabad: In view of the massive influx of visitors from outside the city during the ongoing Maha Kumbh, the historic Anand Bhawan, a major tourist attraction here, will remain open on all days including public holidays.

"In view of the Kumbh Mela, the Anand Bhawan Museum and Jawahar Planetarium will remain open on all seven days of the week, including public holidays, till March 10," said Piyush Pandey, Administrator of the Jawaharlal Nehru Memorial Fund.

"This has been done for the convenience of pilgrims who visit the city during this period and also wish to see the Anand Bhawan," he said.

The Fund, of which Congress President Sonia Gandhi is the chairperson, is responsible for upkeep and management of the sprawling premises inside which the Anand Bhawan -- the ancestral house of the Nehru family now converted into a museum -- and the planetarium named after the country's first Prime Minister are situated.

"Normally, Anand Bhawan and Jawahar Planetarium observe their weekly-offs on Mondays besides remaining shut on public holidays. "However, in view of the exceptionally high influx of tourists and pilgrims that takes place during the Kumbh Mela, we have decided to make an exception till the congregation comes to an end," Pandey said.

The Nehru Planetarium had produced a 20-minute-long programme "Kumbh Aur Akashiya Ghadi" (Kumbh and the Celestial Clock) which would explain the special planetary configuration that coincides with the 12-yearly congregations, he said.
