Punjab CLP to meet on June 13

The various matters listed for the budget session, scheduled from June 14 to June 23, will be taken up in the meeting.

Chandigarh: With the opposition planning to corner the Punjab government on a range of issues in the upcoming budget session, the Punjab Congress Legislative Party (CLP) has convened a meeting on June 13 to counter the opposition charges.

The specially convened meeting is expected to be attended by all MLAs of the ruling party. The various matters listed for the budget session, scheduled from June 14 to June 23, will be taken up in the meeting.

"Punjab Congress Legislative Party will meet here on June 13, ahead of the maiden budget session of the Amarinder Singh government to chalk out a strategy for ensuring smooth function and countering the opposition effectively on any issues it is likely to raise in the House," said a Punjab Pradesh Congress Committee spokesman here.

The budget session is scheduled to commence at 2 PM on June 14 with obituary references and adjourn sine die after the proposed legislative business on June 23.

The discussion on the governor's address would be held on June 16 and June 19, as per the schedule approved by the cabinet.

Opposition parties, including AAP, will try to corner the Congress-led government on several issues like farmers suicides, debt waiver, allegations of impropriety in the recent auction of mining contracts etc in the upcoming session.

The chief minister has already indicated that several important decisions with financial implications will be announced during the budget session to fulfil some key poll promises of his government.
