The mercury in most places in Haryana and Punjab remained below 30 degrees Celsius on Thursday as widespread rain kept the region cool.

Chandigarh: The mercury in most places in Haryana and Punjab remained below 30 degrees Celsius on Thursday as widespread rain kept the region cool.

However, the high humidity level, in the range of 90-100 per cent, did cause some discomfort to the people.

The maximum temperature in most places, according to the Met department, was 7 to 11 notches below normal.

Hisar, which received good rainfall on Wednesday, continued to experience showers on Thursday as well. The town received nearly 140 mm rain since Wednesday night.

Chandigarh and the adjoining Panchkula (Haryana) and Mohali (Punjab) also received rainfall on Thursday.

Reports of rainfall were also received from other cities and towns in the region. The sky remained overcast.

Chandigarh saw a high of 28.9 degrees Celsius, eight degrees below normal. Amritsar in Punjab saw a high of 26.2 degrees, 12 degrees below normal.
