Mumbai: Are you a fan of SS Rajamouli’s two-part magnum opus – Baahubali – starring superstar Prabhas? Well, then here’s good news. You can now plan a ‘trip’ to the world of Mahishmati and experience the grandeur of the sets where one of the world’s most successful films was shot.
The sets were built by National Award winning production designer Sabu Cyril over 100 acres at Ramoji Film City in Hyderabad. Visuals of the sets in the film took us to an entirely different era when the royals of ancient India lived. The world of Mahishmati was indeed captivating and looked majestic on celluloid. And here’s a chance to literally visit the ‘kingdom’.
According to a report in Mid-Day, a studio official said that Sabu Cyril’s assistants had apparently created 1500 sketches to help create this set. The same official was quoted as saying, “A cumulative of over Rs. 60 crore was spent on creating the sets of the film over two parts. Besides the set, some props too have been retained for visitors to see. We have many film students, cinema lovers and even general public visiting us. At the moment, it’s the spot that is attracting maximum tourists for us.
“The officials at Ramoji approached us with the idea and we were happy to oblige. It took us months to create the set and we were anyway planning to retain the set for later use. What better than to feel that we’ve created something for posterity,” producer Shobu Yarlagadda said.
The official website of Ramoji Film City’s Baahubali section reads:
